Home > How Hypnotherapy Works

Hypnosis is a natural, relaxed state of focused attention – not sleep, and not “losing control.”You’ve likely experienced something similar already: that absorbed feeling when you’re lost in a good book or film, or the drowsy moment just before you fall asleep. Hypnotherapy uses that same relaxed state to help your mind become more open to positive change.

You stay in control throughout. You can hear everything, you can choose not to accept a suggestion you don’t agree with, and you can bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time. Nobody can be hypnotised against their will, and nobody can be made to do anything that goes against their values or beliefs.

What actually happens in a session

We start with conversation – whats brought you here , what you’re hoping will change , and any questions you have. Once you’re comfortable , I’ll guide you into a relaxed state using gentle, spoken suggestion. Most people describe it as similar to a deep meditation: calm aware, and pleasant. From there, we work on reframing unhelpful patterns, building new associations, or easing the grip of anxiety , depending on what you’ve come to work on.

Many clients feel a difference from the very first session.

Common questions

Will I lose control or say something embarrassing?

No. You remain aware and in charge the entire time.

What if I can’t be hypnotised?

Almost everyone can enter a hypnotic state to some degree – it simply takes a willingness to relax and follow along.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies from person to person and depending on what we’re working on. I ‘ll always be honest with you about what to expect.

Is it safe?

Yes. Hypnotherapy is a well-established, evidence-informed therapeutic approach when practised by a qualified practitioner.
